## Overview

The best LLM for 32GB VRAM is a 32B-class model at Q4_K_M to Q6_K: Qwen2.5-32B needs 19.8835 GB of weights at Q4_K_M and 26.6634 GB at Q6_K, so both leave room for a KV cache, while a 70B-class model does not fit. So yes, 32 GB is enough for AI work built around 30B-class models, and it is not enough for a 70B at a normal 4-bit quant. All sizes below use the formulas in [[methodology]] and [[llm-quantization-explained]]; the 1 to 2 GB overhead is an assumption, not a measurement. Speed in tokens per second is unknown on this page, because none of the vendor pages below publish one.

## What is the best LLM for 32GB VRAM?

Pick the biggest dense model whose weights, KV cache and overhead stay under 32 GB. Formulas: weights_GB = params x bits / 8 / 1e9; KV bytes = 2 x layers x kv_heads x head_dim x context x bytes_per_value; overhead = 1 to 2 GB assumed.

Inputs for Qwen2.5-32B: 32.5B parameters on its [model card](https://huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen2.5-32B); 64 layers, 8 KV heads, hidden size 5120 over 40 attention heads (head dimension 128), bfloat16 in its [config.json](https://huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen2.5-32B/blob/main/config.json). That gives 2 x 64 x 8 x 128 x 2 = 262,144 bytes of KV per token. Bits per weight are from the [llama.cpp quantize README](https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpp/blob/master/tools/quantize/README.md): Q4_K_M 4.8944, Q5_K_M 5.7036, Q6_K 6.5633, Q8_0 8.5008.

| Quant | Weights (GB) | + KV at 8,192 (2.1475 GB) + 1 to 2 GB | + KV at 32,768 (8.5899 GB) + 1 to 2 GB |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| Q4_K_M | 19.8835 | 23.03 to 24.03 | 29.47 to 30.47 |
| Q5_K_M | 23.1709 | 26.32 to 27.32 | 32.76 to 33.76 (over) |
| Q6_K | 26.6634 | 29.81 to 30.81 | 36.25 to 37.25 (over) |
| Q8_0 | 34.5345 | over 32 before KV | over |

The practical answer: Q4_K_M holds a 32,768-token context inside 32 GB, Q6_K holds about 8,192 tokens, and Q8_0 does not fit. The card's maximum of 131,072 tokens needs 34.3597 GB of KV alone (262,144 x 131,072 bytes), so full context does not fit at any quant. Other 30B-class models follow the same arithmetic once you read their model card and config.json. For 24 GB comparisons see [[24gb-vram-llm]]; the 32B walk-through is [[vram-for-32b-model]].

## Is 32GB VRAM enough for AI?

For local chat, coding assistants and document work on 30B-class models, yes, as the table shows. It is not enough for the largest open models, and it is not enough for long context at high-precision quants. Capacity also is not speed: this page has no tokens-per-second figure, because no linked vendor page publishes one for these cards. Bandwidth figures in the card table below are peak specs, not measured speeds.

## Can 32GB VRAM run a 70B model?

Not at 4-bit. The quantize README lists Llama 3.1 70B at 43.1 GB for Q4_K_M, and the [Qwen2.5-72B card](https://huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen2.5-72B) gives 72.7B parameters, so 72.7e9 x 4.8944 / 8 / 1e9 = 44.4779 GB at Q4_K_M. Its KV (80 layers, 8 KV heads, head dimension 8192 / 64 = 128, per config.json) is 327,680 bytes per token, or 1.3422 GB at 4,096 tokens. Even the README's Q2_K figure of 3.1593 bits gives 28.7101 GB of weights, and 28.7101 + 1.3422 + 1 to 2 = 31.0523 to 32.0523 GB, which is not a clear fit and whose output quality this page does not assess. Offloading layers to system RAM works but is slower; speed is unknown here. Details: [[vram-for-70b-model]]. Two cards give 2 x 32 = 64 GB of memory, but that is not one pool for every engine; see [[multi-gpu-llm]].

## Which is the best 32GB GPU for LLMs?

All five cards below list 32 GB, so the same model files fit on all of them. They differ in memory type, power and software. Figures are from the vendor pages read on 2026-10-13.

| Card | Memory | Bandwidth (vendor page) | Power (vendor page) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [GeForce RTX 5090](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/50-series/rtx-5090/) | 32 GB GDDR7, 512-bit | unknown (not on page) | 575 W total graphics power; 1000 W required system power (Ryzen 9 9950X footnote); "850W Minimum" also listed |
| [Radeon AI PRO R9700](https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/workstations/radeon-ai-pro/ai-9000-series/amd-radeon-ai-pro-r9700.html) | 32 GB GDDR6, 256-bit | 640 GB/s peak | 300 W TBP; 750 W minimum PSU |
| [Intel Arc Pro B70](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/245797/intel-arc-pro-b70-graphics/specifications.html) | 32 GB GDDR6, 256-bit | 608 GB/s | 230 W TBP (low-power range 160 to 290 W) |
| [Intel Arc Pro B65](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/245796/intel-arc-pro-b65-graphics/specifications.html) | 32 GB GDDR6, 256-bit | 608 GB/s | 200 W TBP |
| [RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/products/workstations/professional-desktop-gpus/rtx-pro-4500/) | 32 GB GDDR7 with ECC; interface unknown | 896 GB/s | 200 W max; dual slot |

Which is best depends on what the pages cannot tell you: software support, price and measured speed, all unknown here. Per-card pages: [[rtx-5090-llm]], [[radeon-ai-pro-r9700-llm]], [[arc-pro-b70-llm]] and [[arc-pro-b70-vs-r9700]]. A wider list is at [[gpu-vram-list]].

## What is the cheapest 32GB GPU for LLMs?

Unknown. None of the vendor pages above state a price: NVIDIA's RTX 5090 page shows only a placeholder, and the AMD, Intel and RTX PRO 4500 pages list none. Check current retailer price for each card, and compare cost per GB only after you have it. Do not treat a hosting-vendor blog's figure as a spec.

## Questions

### Is 32GB VRAM enough for AI?

Yes for 30B-class models and no for 70B at 4-bit. Qwen2.5-32B at Q4_K_M is 19.8835 GB of weights, and with 8.5899 GB of KV cache at 32,768 tokens plus an assumed 1 to 2 GB of overhead it totals 29.47 to 30.47 GB. A 70B-class model needs 43.1 GB or more at Q4_K_M per the llama.cpp README.

### Is 32GB of VRAM good for AI?

It is good for running one 30B-class model with a long context locally. It is limited for 70B models, for Q8_0 of a 32B (34.5345 GB of weights), and for the full 131,072-token context of Qwen2.5-32B, whose KV alone is 34.3597 GB. Speed is unknown here.

### What is the cheapest 32GB GPU for LLMs?

Unknown from the primary sources. The NVIDIA, AMD and Intel pages read on 2026-10-13 list no price for the 32 GB cards, so check current retailer price for the RTX 5090, Radeon AI PRO R9700, Arc Pro B70, Arc Pro B65 and RTX PRO 4500.

### What is the best 32GB GPU for LLMs?

On capacity they tie at 32 GB. The vendor pages differ on memory type (GDDR7 on the RTX 5090 and RTX PRO 4500, GDDR6 on the R9700 and Intel cards), stated bandwidth (896, 640 and 608 GB/s where published) and power (200 to 575 W). Software support and measured speed are not on those pages, so they are unknown here.

### Can 32GB VRAM run a 70B model?

Not at Q4_K_M: the weights are 43.1 GB for Llama 3.1 70B per the llama.cpp README, or 44.4779 GB computed for Qwen2.5-72B. At Q2_K the weights are 28.7101 GB, and with KV and overhead the total is 31.0523 to 32.0523 GB at 4,096 tokens, which is not a clear fit. Offloading to system RAM is possible and its speed is unknown here.
